Jairo has always been passionate about storytelling. First verbally, then acting in school plays and later using other platforms, he became especially interested in understanding visual media and communication and the relationship between message and audience.
In college, Jairo studied Social Communication in his native Colombia and graduated with a major in Media Production in 2002 from Santiago de Cali University. After graduation, he traveled to the United States to manage a Hispanic magazine, which increased his interest in printed and web media. It was around this time that Jairo decided to pursue a second Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Media Design from the Art Institute in Indianapolis. Never one to stop learning, Jairo started his Master’s Degree in Visual Communication Design at IUPUI in 2013.
Jairo has worked as a multimedia producer and consultant for several organizations in the Midwest, working on video production, photography, graphic and web design, but more importantly researching the relationship between specific demographics and the media consumption trends from a sociocultural perspective.
Jairo sees himself as a communicator first and a designer second, but we couldn’t figure out a way to fit that on his business card. Jairo takes joy in what he does at—so much so that he says it doesn’t feel like work—but he also enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife Maria and his three boys Alejandro, Mateo and Lucas. He also loves watching movies, playing and watching soccer, snowboarding and video games.
